Looking Forward to Retirement in 2040

LITERARY MAGAZINE
A life of leisure, my friends called it,
a cage is what I say
A covenant, we called it. Something to enter
bodies decay faster in summer
i am dangling over the sink
scrubbing my tongue off
Heaven’s glamour queen
The city is a threat. Frozen canals overflowing with siren
The other kids cried and bawled at the slush mass
Pointed horns and offset jaw
I ripen daily— a peach, a plum
the color of bruise
They told me once that loving in Spanish is different from loving someone in English
